Locked Away

This photo was taken at the Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain, Scotland. These casks are destined to remain in this small, dark barn for over 10 years, slowly evaporating and taking in the unique Highland air to create the famous Scotch whisky. Despite its distribution being one of the largest in the world, I was very impressed at the rustic feel of the distillery, very well exemplified in this cool, quiet little place. I feel that it holds a kind of serene constancy about this photo, knowing that it these casks will remain in the exact same position, untouched, for years to come.

To enhance the "timelessness" of the scene, I've decreased the color saturation. The effect is to eliminate almost all discernable color but the red painting on the ends of the casks, which indicates a first use of each barrell.
